Top Cop March 2018

SIXTH PRECINCT
Police Officers
Michael DiClemente

On March 12, 2018 at 1000 hours, Police Officer Michael DiClemente, while on routine patrol in Manhasset, came upon a male subject with a baseball bat smashing the windows of a vehicle stopped on Bayview Ave. The male subject then began assaulting a male victim by hitting him in the head with the bat. Officer DiClemente approached the male subject with the bat and drew his taser. Officer DiClemente gave the subject verbal commands, which were ignored by the subject. Officer DiClemente then deployed his taser, which had no effect on the male subject.

The male subject, while still armed with the bat, then turned and aggressively approached Officer DiClemente. Officer DiClemente drew his service weapon and ordered the subject to drop the bat. The armed subject continued to approach Officer DiClemente. Fearing for his safety and the safety of the civilians also at scene, Officer DiClemente fired his service weapon at the subject, striking the subject. Having stopped the threat, Officer DiClemente then requested multiple ambulances for the victims and subject. Officer DiClemente then rendered aid to the subject until medics arrived at scene.

For his heroic actions, bravery, professionalism and dedication to duty, the Nassau County PBA is proud to name Police Officer Michael DiClemente its Top Cop for March 2018.
