WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE TO GO TO INTERNAL AFFAIRS
Notify a PBA representative IMMEDIATELY.
If you are the subject of the investigation, you are entitled to have a PBA representative and attorney present during the interview.
If you are being called as a witness, you are not entitled to have representation present during the interview.
ALWAYS ask for a copy of your letter and keep it for future reference.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I SUSTAIN A LINE-OF-DUTY INJURY?
- All injured officers should get an aided number.
- Rules and Regulations state that injuries must be reported within 7 days of occurrence.
- Make sure a PBA rep is present when the initial report is written.
- It is imperative that the initial report is written correctly. Incorrect documentation could lead to a loss of benefits.
- The injured officer is not required to seek medical attention immediately.
- If an aided number is given and the PO signs on sick, he/she must see the surgeon within 24 hours. If the injury is a re-occurrence of a previous injury, then you must see the surgeon immediately (if ambulatory) if the surgeon's office is open, or within 24 hours if the surgeon's office is closed.
- If he/she is in too much pain or is not able to travel, call MAO at 573-7410 and ask to schedule your visit at a later time or date.
- Keep in mind, that the injured officer can still be ordered in.
- If the officer gets an aided number and does not go on sick leave, he/she must see the Surgeon on his or her next tour that coincides with the Surgeon's hours.
- Disputes over time off for recovery are resolved by a 207-C or Medical Review.
- Form C-3 must be filled out within 10 days. These are completed with the aided packet.

- LOD injuries require no out-of-pocket expense for the injured officers.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I TAKE SICK OR SUSTAIN AN INJURY WHILE OFF DUTY?
If it will prevent the PO from working, 0ff-duty sicknesses/injuries require a visit to the surgeon within 24 hours.
Off-duty sickness/injuries that will not prevent the PO from working require a visit to the surgeon on the injured officer's next tour that coincides with the Surgeon's office hours.
