On June 24th 2005 Police Officers Frederick Black and Kevin Carroll were assigned to the Seventh Precinct . During their tour of duty they responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in Massapequa.
Upon arriving at the scene the officers were informed by a female complainant that she had an argument with her boyfriend and wanted him removed from the location. As the officers approached the bedroom where the boyfriend was sleeping the female began to scream and without warning picked up a 12 gauge shotgun. Officers Black and Carroll instantly drew their weapons as the female racked the shotgun pointing it at the boyfriend screaming “I’m going to kill you”. Both officers ordered her to drop the shotgun. She complied and was arrested.
Police Officers Frederick Black and Kevin Carroll with absolutely no advance warning found themselves confronted with a deadly situation. Their immediate response along with professional restraint resulted in the successful resolution of what might have been a tragedy.
