On July 8, 2004 at 0138 hr. a 911 call was received from 128 Elm Street in Valley Stream. Four males armed with bats and guns had menaced a group of people in front of their house. CB dispatched Fifth Pct. officers to the scene.
Police Officer Hill Karl-Otto responded as back up to the vicinity knowing how close it was to the NYC line. P.O. Karl-Otto drove down Hook Creek Blvd. in NYC and observed a white SUV with 4 occupants. He notified CB requested assistance and was able to stop the vehicle. SGT. Eric Arnold responded to the scene. Both officers observed that the subjects were nervous and were adjusting their clothing. SGT. Arnold frisked a subject and felt a gun, a struggle ensued SGT. Arnold wrestled him to the ground, disarming the subject of a fully loaded Hi Point 9mm pistol. The officers searched the SUV and found a fully loaded Bryco Arms 9mm pistol. All four subjects were taken into custody. A show up was conducted and positive ID’s on all four subjects were made. The subjects were taken to the Fifth Precinct and charged with numerous felonies.
P.O. Hill Karl-Otto displayed initiative by responding to the area knowing the close proximity to NYC. His keen observations of the SUV prevented four armed and dangerous felons from escaping. SGT. Eric Arnold’s observations and quick actions in subduing and disarming a subject of a fully loaded weapon brought this potentially deadly situation to a successful conclusion. It is my honor to present you as our Top Cops of the Month for July 2004.
