P.O. JOHN VISCONTE
SEVENTH PRECINCT
A.M.T. JOHN CONVEY
EMERGENCY AMBULANCE BUREAU

On August 11th 2005 at approximately 1830 hours a domestic disturbance assignment in Seaford was broadcast in the Seventh Precinct. Additional information stated that a retired NYC police officer was attempting to restrain the subject and had taken a firearm away from him.

AMT John Convey, a short distance away, began to respond in the direction of the assignment. Police Officer John Visconte responded as the primary officer and Police Officer Valerie Troise volunteered as back up.

AMT Convey, first on scene, positioned the ambulance four houses away from the subjects house. The retired NYC police officer approached AMT Convey and described the situation advising that there were more weapons in the house. AMT Convey immediately notified radio that there were multiple weapons in the house and responding officers should respond with caution.

P.O. Troise arrived on scene and further interviewed the retired officer discovering that the subject was in an uncontrollable rage and was going to harm his wife and son.

P.O. Troise and AMT Convey realizing that time was of the essence for the wife and son, advanced towards the subjects house. A figure appeared in the doorway loading a shotgun. Officer Troise shouted for the subject to drop the gun numerous times . Suddenly and without warning the subject kicked open the door and fired at Officer Troise. Officer Troise while backing up and taking cover fired several rounds.

At this time Police Officer John Visconte arrived on scene, exits his RMP and hears a shotgun blast which strikes his RMP. Officers Troise and Visconte positioned themselves behind safe cover and continued to return fire, striking the subject twice.

At this point additional police personnel arrived on scene. The subject was treated by AMT Convey and transported to NUMC suffering from two gunshot wounds.

The courage, determination and fortitude of Police Officer Valerie Troise, Police Officer John Visconte and AMT John Convey is a tribute to the men and women of the Nassau County Police Department.
