P.O. JOHN VISCONTE
SEVENTH PRECINCT

On October 1st, 2007 at 2141 hours Headquarters broadcast a radio assignment for a suspicious person armed with a gun on Riverdale Ave. in Massapequa. Police Officers Shawn Warta in RMP 714 and Michael Sherlock in RMP 721 received the assignment. Police Officers Frank Arcuri in RMP 707 and Plainclothes Officers Steven Deng and John Visconte in unmarked RMP 739 responded as backup.

Officers Warta and Sherlock arrived on scene and observed a male subject fitting the description of the man with a gun. As the Officers approached the subject he turned dropping a laptop computer to the ground. The subject ran off through the rear yards with both Officers in foot pursuit. As the subject fled the Officers observed the subject reach into his waistband numerous times and drop items to the ground. Officers Arcuri and Deng arrived on scene and assisted in the foot pursuit. The subject was cornered in a dark unlit rear yard. He was ordered to remove his hands from his waistband but he refused. Using restraint the Officers were able to bring the subject to the ground and recovered a realistic looking 380 BB gun. Officer Warta backtracked the pursuit and recovered several knives and machetes and a second realistic looking 357 BB gun along with additional proceeds from an occupied burglary on Riverdale Ave.

While all of this was taking place Officer Visconte located a second subject and chased him in the opposite direction. Officer Visconte observed several weapons on the ground including a rifle, handgun and a box of ammo. Officer Visconte tackled the subject to the ground and became engaged in a violent struggle eventually overpowering the subject and placing him under arrest.

When the complainant was interviewed he informed the Officers that he heard a noise at the front door. When he went to the front door the subjects pointed a black handgun in his face as they pushed him back into his house. The complainant was able to escape through the back door, jump over his fence and call 911 from his neighbor’s house.

As a result of these Seventh Precinct Police Officers, their dedication to the community and the excellent teamwork they displayed both subjects were taken off the streets of Nassau County and charged with First Degree Burglary.
