P.O. MAURA KOENEKE
P.O. ROBERT SCHNURER
SIXTH PRECINCT

Police Officers Robert Schnurer and Maura Koeneke were working a plain clothes detail in the village of Great Neck. They observed a vehicle pass a red light on Northern Blvd. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver was asked for his license and registration, which he could not present. Instead, the driver presented an international license and insurance card. The international license was old, hand written and expired. The insurance card did not match the vehicle the subject was driving. The subject stated he was from Afghanistan and was in the country for four months. The vehicle came back to a company in New Jersey.
The subject was brought into the Sixth Precinct station house for further investigation to obtain his ID and his vehicle was impounded. During the inventory search of the car, the officers came across several suspicious items. There was a book on experimental organic chemistry, a cooking pot, ultraviolet flashlight, three cell phones, a lap top computer, a spotlight and a map of the area. When questioned about these items the subject gave conflicting and vague answers which did not make sense. The book was marked off to a page containing instructions on how to make TNT, and diagrams dealing with high explosives and booster charges.
Police Officers Schnurer and Koeneke contacted outside agencies. The New York State Terrorist Unit and Immigration ordered the defendant held without bail for his suspicious activity which could be linked to terrorist acts.
