Top Cop October 2004

On Sunday October 17, 2004, P.O. Christopher Fehling was off duty and on vacation. He was aboard Jet Blue Flight 404 traveling from JFK to Puerto Rico. At approximately 2240 hrs an intoxicated passenger stood up in his seat yelling in Spanish causing Spanish speaking passengers to be alarmed. The subject pushed his way past two flight attendants and attempted to gain access to the cockpit of the plane. P.O. Fehling with the assistance of a member of the US Air Force subdued the subject and dragged him to the rear of the airplane. The subject was restrained screaming that he wanted to fly the plane. The pilot made an emergency landing at Bermuda International Airport where the subject was taken into custody by the Royal Bermuda Police Department.
P.O. Fehling off duty, out of his jurisdiction, unarmed, while on vacation took action bringing this incident to a successful conclusion. He maintained the safety and security of all the passengers and crew aboard Jet Blue Flight404. It is my privilege to honor you as our Top Cop Of The Month for October 2004.
