Top Cop Meritorious Award 2005
PBA President Gary Delaraba presents Meritorious Service Award to police officer John W. Trutt Jr.

On February 7, 2005 Police Officer John Trutt and his partners responded to a call for a male selling narcotics from a black SUV.

As one of the officers approached what appeared to be an unoccupied vehicle he saw a male rise from a reclining position to show his face. As the officer got within ten feet of the vehicle, the subject pointed a silver handgun at him. Officer Trutt distracted the subject with several commands to drop the weapon which caused the subject to point his weapon at and fire upon Trutt. He returned fire striking the subject. The Officers were then able to take the subject into custody.

Police Officer Trutt displayed courage and heroism when without cover engaged an armed subject to protect a fellow officer. It is an honor to recognize you as our “Top Cop”.
