MARCH 2006
PO John Blanthorn
Eighth Precinct
On March 17, 2006 P.O. John Blanthorn assigned to the Eighth Precinct received a radio call for a family disturbance with shots fired in Levittown. Upon his arrival, Officer Blanthorn observed two males fighting with a shotgun lying on the floor between them. Officer Blanthorn quickly ascertained that one of the subjects fighting was responsible for having fired two shots from the nearby shotgun. Officer Blanthorn was able to subdue and handcuff the subject without further incident.
As assisting officers arrived Officer Blanthorn secured the scene and the shotgun and began a search of the surrounding area where he located a pair of pistol grips. Despite the subject claiming he did not own other firearms, Officer Blanthorn located a fully automatic UZI machine gun behind a piece of furniture not 20 feet away. Further investigation resulted in the recovery of an additional illegally possessed handgun.
Police Officer Blanthorn’s quick response and decisive actions at the scene of a confirmed shots fired called stopped the escalation of a potentially deadly domestic incident.
