Top Cop March 2004

1st Pct trustee Craig Braun Presents Top Cop Award to Po Kenneth Magnuson of the 5th pct.
P.O. KENNETH MAGNUSON
FIFTH PRECINCT
On March 21, 2004 P.O. Kenneth Magnuson was working a night tour assigned to the Elmont section of the Fifth Precinct. at approximately 0310 hours, P.O. Magnuson was increasing his patrol of Hempstead Turnpike near Belmont Race Track. He was aware of a local robbery pattern in which the victims were immigrant employees of the race track. Due to a language barrier several of these incidences had gone unreported to the police.
As P.O. Magnuson headed Westbound on Hempstead Turnpike he observed a male attacking a male Hispanic who was lying on the ground. P.O. Magnuson immediately exited his vehicle and proned the male on the ground and requested assistance. Due to the fact of a language barrier it was not immediately known what had transpired. A Spanish speaking officer determined that the male Hispanic was a victim of a robbery and a violent beating, being chased and beaten for several blocks by the male subject.
Because of Police Officer Kenneth Magnuson’s self initiated patrol, and knowledge of his post and conditions, a violent felon, who was preying on the immigrant workers of Belmont Race Track, was removed from society. I am proud to honor you as our Top Cop of the Month of March 2004.
