TOP COP OF THE MONTH
JUNE 2008
P.O. ERIN BRAITHWAITE
P.O. RICKY BOBB
FIFTH PRECINCT

On June 29th 2008 Police Officers Erin Braithwaite and Ricky Bobb were working a night tour assigned to RMP 509 in the Fifth Precinct. At approximately 2300 hours a radio call was broadcast for shots fired at a house party at 148 Hoffman Ave Elmont. RMP 509 along with several other Fifth Pct cars responded. During a backyard graduation party a loud verbal altercation erupted between a male subject and several other males attending the party. They were shouting gang language back and forth when all of a sudden the male subject pulls a loaded gun from his waistband and fires several shots into a crowd of 50 people.

Four of the young people attending the graduation party were shot. The male subject fled the scene being chased by a witness who saw the subject reloading his gun. The witness stopped and notified the Police where the subject had gone and that he reloaded his gun.

The Fifth Pct cars were pulling up to a state of mass confusion with people running everywhere. They took control of the situation and gave medical attention to the four shooting victims transporting them to the hospital. As soon as the first Officers arrived they broadcast a notification for the armed subject. Officers Braithwaite and Bobb responded to an adjacent street closing off the subjects escape. As they drove towards 4th Street they observed a male subject fitting the description running towards Belmont Ave. The Officers were able to apprehend the subject and return him back to the scene for a show up where he was identified as the person who shot into the crowd.
A depraved individual who has no regard for human life was taken into custody without incident by these two dedicated Police Officers. Both Officers Braithwaite and Bobb displayed a tremendous amount of restraint while apprehending a subject who had just shot 4 people. They are a fine example of the true professionalism displayed by the Officers of the Nassau County Police Department.
