P.O. WAYNE HELLER, EIGHTH PRECINCT
On July 8th 2005 Police Officer Wayne Heller was assigned to the Eighth Precinct working a night tour of duty. At approximately 2000 hours he received a radio assignment for a stolen car report in Hicksville. Upon his arrival at scene he was informed by the complainant that she was having problems with her daughter regarding her use of the family car. As Officer Heller interviewed the complainant , her daughter entered the room waving a knife charging at her mother from behind. Officer Heller reacted quickly placing himself in between the mother and daughter using pepper spray to ward off the attack. Officer Heller successfully disarmed the daughter without injury to any persons involved.
Police Officer Wayne Heller showed great restraint in defusing a potentially deadly situation without escalating the situation. His quick decisive actions resulted in a successful conclusion.
