FIRST PRECINCT
On February 24, 2006 Police Officers Mark Maniet, Timothy Rooney, and Martin Helmke were on patrol in an unmarked car in the First Precinct. They observed a black 1988 BMW driving erratically, and speeding south bound on Nassau Road in Roosevelt. A VTL stop was conducted on Main St. in Freeport.
While speaking to the operator of the vehicle the officers observed two bludgeons lying next to the drivers seat. At this time the three occupants were asked to exit the vehicle so a search for other weapons could be done for officer safety. As the first subject exited the car he reached for his waistband. The officers ordered him to raise his hands,
he continued to reach for his waistband. As the officers restrained the subject a struggle ensued and a large bulge was felt in subjects waistband. A loaded 9mm handgun was removed from the subjects waistband. The struggle continued and finally the subject was handcuffed and placed under arrest. The two subjects remaining in the car were ordered out found and found in possession of switchblade knives and placed under arrest.
Police Officers Mark Maniet, Timothy Rooney and Martin Helmke removed three armed and dangerous felons off the streets of Nassau County. They worked together as a team and brought a potentially deadly situation to a successful conclusion.
