TOP COP OF THE MONTH
DECEMBER 2008
P.O. ANTHONY RAYMOND
P.O. GUY BENEDETTO
FIFTH PRECINCT

On December 3, 2008 Police Officers Anthony Raymond and Guy Benedetto were working a 1500 x 0100 tour of duty assigned to the Fifth Precinct plainclothes detail. The Officers received information that a stolen auto from the Village of Hempstead may be in the West Hempstead area.

The Officers began to check the local hot spots and they located the unoccupied vehicle at the Capri Motel. The Officers secured an observation point and kept the vehicle in sight. Approximately one hour later a male entered the car and drove to the main parking lot where the Officers stopped the vehicle. The subject attempted to flee and tossed a bag containing crack/cocaine. The male told the Officers that the person who stole the car was in room 231 and he gave the Officers the key to the room.

Upon entering the room Officers Raymond and Benedetto found two subjects lying on the bed. On the nightstand and within arms reach was a fully loaded 380 handgun. The subjects were immediately taken into custody and the weapon was secured. An additional 70 rounds of 380 ammunition were recovered from the hotel room.

Officers Raymond and Benedetto received some basic information and through their diligence located a stolen auto which led to the arrest of three subjects. They were faced with a potentially deadly situation which they handled without incident and safely removed a loaded 380 handgun with 70 additional rounds from the hands of the criminals that use them.
