APRIL 2008
P.O. MARK SPOTTISWOOD
FIRST PRECINCT

On April 25th 2008 Police Officer Mark Spottiswood was working a day tour assigned to RMP 108 in the First Pct. At approximately 1800 hours a male had entered the Ridgewood Savings Bank on Bellmore Ave threatening the teller, demanding she turn over money in her cash drawer. A notification was broadcast by the first Officers on scene. Officer Spottiswwod was responding to the call when he observed a male subject fitting the description of the bank robber. Officer Spottiswood exited his RMP and approached the subject on foot. The subject turned and attempted to flee. Officer Spottiswood fearing that the subject was armed with a gun leaped forward grabbing him by his arms in an attempt to restrain him. The subject resisted and a violent struggle took place leaving Officer Spottiswood with several injuries to his lower body and legs. The subject was finally overpowered and placed under arrest by Officer Spottiswood. A show up was conducted with a positive ID of the subject as the bank robber.

Police Officer Spottiswood’s knowledge of his post along with his keen observations led to the arrest of a serious felon. Officer Spottiswood is a fine Officer and is truly dedicated to protecting the residents of Nassau County.
