Police Officer Giglio, an Emergency Medical Technician, operating a Departmental Ambulance in the Fifth Precinct on Hempstead Avenue, West Hempstead, went to the aid of fellow officers investigating a burglary on October 7, 1975. He was shot upon his arrival at the scene by the burglar who later was apprehended. Officer Giglio died of his wounds seventy days later on December 16, 1975.
