Patrolman David J. Murphy, while cleaning his service revolver in the Fourth Precinct Station House accidentally shot himself in the chest. Patrolman Murphy was awarded the American Legion Medal for marksmanship on September 13, 1933, and the Shor and Hadfield Medal for revolver shooting on August 8, 1941 and September 8, 1942.
