Police Officer Greer while on patrol in a Highway Patrol car stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on the Long Island Expressway. Officer Greer was walking back to his patrol car when he was struck by a pick-up truck which left the scene of the accident. Police Officer Greer died from injuries due to the accident. Police Officer Greer was awarded the Purple Heart Medal posthumously.
