NYC trains raise security after terrorism warning

Associated Press

NEW YORK — New York City's transit agency says it has increased police presence at "key locations" in light of a continuing terrorism probe.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says there's no credible threat to the city's subway system and commuter trains.

But extra officers with helmets and bulletproof vests are at spots like Grand Central Terminal in midtown Manhattan.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly would not comment on the probe that led to a nationwide terrorism warning Tuesday for entertainment complexes, sports stadiums and hotels.

Three people, including a Queens imam, are charged with lying to officials investigating the alleged plot.

Kelly says the city is "obligated" to put itself on heightened alert whenever possible plots surface because of previous attacks in the city.
