NASSAU COUNTY: Injured cop's family getting $25G check

The family of an injured Nassau police officer was to receive a $25,000 check today from the Police Crisis Fund, officials said.

Officer Kenneth Baribault was critically injured while in his police car May 18, when an alleged drunken driver plowed into the vehicle on the Long Island Expressway.

Baribault, who suffered brain trauma and a shattered pelvis, was transferred last week from the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, N.J., to continue his convalescence.

The crisis fund check, made out to the benevolent fund established for Baribault, was to be presented to his family at a 1 p.m. ceremony at Nassau County Police headquarters in Garden City.

The Crisis Fund was established by the financial services firm David Lerner Associates and the Greater Long Island Running Club to assist Long Island law enforcement officers and their families in times of personal emergency.
