The heists occurred Friday afternoon, police said. Police provided two different descriptions of the robbers.

The suspect was described as a 6 foot-tall man with a medium build. He was "wearing a black scarf which covered his head and face, a blue button down long-sleeved collared shirt and jeans," police said in a news release.

The second robbery occurred at 2:11 p.m. at a Wachovia Bank branch at 145 Fulton Ave., Hempstead.

The suspect was described as a black man, about 5-feet-6 inches to 5-feet-8 inches tall, 40 years old with a stocky build, police said. He was wearing a dark-colored baseball hat with exposed dreadlocks, jeans and a black T-shirt.
