Nassau police arrested a 32-year-old Woodmere lawyer who is accused of leaving a toddler in a car while she shopped at Walmart in Valley Stream.
Alona Sulman, 32, of Wood Street, left her 2½-year-old daughter in the car for at least 60 minutes while she shopped at the Valley Stream store, police said.
Sulman, who practices immigration law in Cedarhurst, was arrested at 2:15 p.m. Saturday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
The uninjured child was released to her father, who was not identified by police, while Sulman was issued a ticket to appear at District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 17, police said.
Sulman, who police said is nine months pregnant, apparently went into the store to use the bathroom, said Lt. Kevin Smith, then remained in the store to shop.
Sulman might have been delayed by the long lines at the store, he said, but still should not have left the child unattended. The child was in a car seat, he said.
"If your child is young enough to be in a car seat, your child is not old enough to be left alone," Smith said.
Attempts to reach Sulman were unsuccessful. State records show she has practiced law in New York since 2004.
