Two Nassau police officers rescued an elderly South Farmingdale couple who had been asleep in their burning home early Sunday, police said.
When the two Eighth Precinct officers responded to a 12:40 a.m. call for a fire at the Sunset Avenue home "a frantic neighbor told the officers that an elderly couple was inside the home," a Monday police report said.
"The officers forced entry into the home by kicking down the door, ran upstairs and awakened the couple. They were able to guide the victims, both in their 80s, out of the house without injury," the report said.
The South Farmingdale Fire Department responded to put out the fire, which the Nassau County Fire Marshal said did not appear suspicious.
In a Monday news release, Nassau police did not detail the extent of the damage.
