Police: Oceanside tire thieves nabbed

Two men were caught in the act of stealing tires from a sport utility vehicle in Oceanside early Monday, and Nassau police later tracked them down with canine units, police said.

It was about 1:40 a.m. Monday when witnesses saw the two allegedly stealing tires from a 2007 Cadillac Escalade and the witnesses reported the crime to the police.

Fourth Precinct officers responded and when the two ran off the dog teams were called in.

Sean Barge, 20, of 214th St., Queens Village, and Jaquail B. Belvin, 23, of Burlington, N.C., were charged with grand larceny and possession of burglary tools. Barge was also charged with false personation -- identifying himself to the police with a fake name, police said.
