3 teens charged in armed robbery of cabbie in Roosevelt

A taxi driver who was dispatched to a fake address in Roosevelt was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning by three teens, the Nassau police said.
The driver, a 60-year-old man, arrived at Scherer Place in Roosevelt at 2:48 a.m. Tuesday. The three teens got into the cab and one of them pulled out a silver handgun, the police said.
After the driver handed over the keys and cash the three got out of the cab and ran north on Scherer Place, then west on East Fulton Avenue.
First Precinct officers responded along with a canine unit, which led them to 116 E. Fulton Ave., where they were given consent to search, police said.
There the officers found three suspects, money stolen from the cab driver and a loaded chrome Smith & Wesson .38-caliber handgun, the police said. Officers arrested two Roosevelt teens, Terrell Li, 16, of 117 Maple Dr. and Maurice Gardner, 16, of 103 Park Ave.; and Kurtis Phillip, 16, of 896 Nassau Rd., Uniondale.
All three were charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree weapons possession, both felonies. They face arraignment Wednesday at First District Court, Hempstead.
