Burglary suspect caught in Uniondale

A Uniondale man was charged with breaking into a neighbor's home Tuesday night and assaulting two police officers who arrested him a short time later, Nassau police said.
John Perry, 39, of 936 Goodrich St., pried open the rear window of a home on Charles Place, Uniondale, at around 6:30 p.m., police said.
He reached into a room, took a jewelry box, then climbed into the room where he was confronted by the residents, a woman, 46, and her son, 29, police said.
Perry escaped through the window as one of the victims called police, and responding officers saw him walking on Chester Street. He tried to get away, running into nearby backyards, but the officers chased and caught him.
Perry struggled with the officers as they tried to arrest him, Nassau police said, injuring two of the officers, who were treated and released from Nassau University Medical Center. No further details on the officers' injuries were immediately available Wednesday.
The proceeds from the burglary were recovered, police said.
Perry was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree assault, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools.
He faces arraignment Wednesday at First District Court, Hempstead.
