Nassau teen charged under social host law arrested again

A North Valley Stream teen charged last month under Nassau County's social host law was arrested again Thursday night after a surprise police search of his family's house turned up a stash of 11 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Ron Subdhan, 17, was arrested after Nassau police and probation officers showed up unannounced for a 6:30 p.m. Thursday search of the family's 759 Wyngate Dr. West home, police said.

Subdhan is out on bail on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child in connection with a rowdy June 13 party.

The Subdhan family home was the source of numerous complaints in recent years of rowdy, noisy parties, police said.

Ron Subdhan, his mother, Shanta Subdhan, 48, and his sister Sharon, 17, were all arrested June 13 and charged under the county's social host law, which makes it a criminal offense to allow underage alcohol consumption in a private home.

In addition to the new felony charge Thursday of marijuana possession, police also found about $50 worth of illegal fireworks, and charged Ron Subdhan with a misdemeanor charge of dealing with fireworks, police said.

Subdhan faces arraignment Friday at First District Court, Hempstead.

The June arrests came after years of neighbors' complaints of large, unruly parties. In the June 13 party, the police found nearly 200 youths inside and beer and liquor being supplied to underage teens.

One sergeant described the scene as a madhouse, with teens ages 16 to 19 drinking alcohol in plain view of police and others bolting to evade them.

Shanta Subdhan was a willing participant and knew what was occurring at the party attended mostly by North Valley Stream High School students, police said.

Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey has said the Subdhan family arrests highlighted a larger social issue that law enforcement can't resolve without help from parents and the community.
