Police fatally shoot pit bull during Elmont arrest

Police said they were called to a disturbance at 117-03 240th St. in Elmont Thursday about 11 p.m. that erupted over the care of a child.
Police said that Luckelson Frederique assaulted the child's mother in the home, and when police tried to arrest him, he threatened the officers with his pit bull. At some point, Frederique let the dog out, and officers fatally shot it in the driveway.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment to lacerations to her head. One of the officers sustained a knee injury.
Luckelson Frederique, 26, who lived in the home, was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest. His brother, Stanley Frederique, 28, of 116-21 240th St., was also arrested and charged with second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police did not release information on the victim or her relationship to the defendants or elaborate on the child endangerment charge.
