Queens man charged in Elmont cell phone robberies

Three men robbed three other men on a street in Elmont Friday nights, stealing cell phones while armed with what appeared to be a knife, police said.

One of the robbers was later caught. Police are still searching for the other two.

Reginald Aubourg, 19, of 112-22 Witthoff St., Queens Village, was arrested Sunday at 6:45 p.m. at his home and charged with three counts of first-degree robbery, police said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said the incident took place on 2nd Street at about 8:15 p.m. Friday. It was then, police said, that Aubourg and two others approached the men, whose names and ages were not released because they are victims, and demanded that they empty their pockets.

Aubourg then went through their pockets and stole their cell phones, police said.

The trio of robbers fled, police said, but entered a car - and the victims were able to get a partial plate. Police said an officer later stopped the car on Biltmore Avenue near Hempstead Turnpike, but learned the driver, who was alone in the car at the time, was not involved in the alleged crime.

However, the cell phones were recovered inside the vehicle, police said.
