A Roosevelt man has been charged with shooting a woman during an argument last month, Nassau police said.

On Jan. 16, at about 11:30 p.m., police responded to a Lee Street home for a 911 call about shots fired, authorities said. A 29-year-old woman told police she was arguing with Robert Wells, 32, who lived on the first floor, police said. The woman tried to shut the door on Wells when he produced a handgun and shot at her at least once, striking her on the buttocks and causing a laceration, police said.

Wells then fled, police said. He was arrested Thursday at the First Precinct in Baldwin. He had moved out of the Roosevelt home to a residence on 104th Avenue in St. Albans, Queens, police said.

Wells was charged with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
