Police Dog Catches New Hyde Park Burglar

A 22-year-old New Hyde Park man was caught in the act of committing a burglary at a school in his hometown shortly after midnight on Monday, Nassau police said.

Officers responded with canine units to the Christian Education Building on South 9th Street for the report of a burglary in progress. Thunder, a police dog, searched the building and found Benjamin Wiener in a second-floor classroom, police said.

After a brief struggle, he was arrested and treated for a dog bite to his leg at an area hospital.
Wiener was charged with burglary and was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monda
