Cops: Man stole purse while riding bicycle

A bicyclist pedaled away after snatching a woman's purse Sunday night as she was walking in Roosevelt.

But two police officers soon found the man, arrested him, and recovered the woman's purse and credit cards, Nassau County police said.

The woman was walking on Nassau Road near Lakewood Avenue at 9:03 p.m. Sunday when the man yanked the purse from her arm, then bicycled east on Lakewood Avenue, the police said.

A short time later, near Park Avenue and Valentine Street, the two officers saw a man on a bicycle who fit the description of the suspect.

The man, Jamal London, 20, of 48 Bauer Ave., Roosevelt, was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery. The victim's pocketbook and credit cards were recovered, the police said.

London was scheduled for arraignment Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
