Armed men on foot spark Bethpage lockdown

BETHPAGE - Police say three men are in custody after they allegedly tried to flee police in Bethpage, which prompted the lockdown of a hospital and school.

Authorities say the three armed men apprehended are possibly linked to an earlier burglary in Plainview. Police say they were pursuing the men who crashed their car and took off on foot on Hempstead Turnpike.

New Island Hospital and Plainedge Middle School were locked down for about a half-hour.

The men were later rounded up and arrested on hospital grounds.
