Police responding to the scene of a suspicious, unoccupied vehicle in Inwood discovered about $25,000 worth of savings bonds scattered inside the rented Toyota Corolla, they said Wednesday.

Police said a Lawrence man is suspected in the theft of the bonds from his 73-year-old landlady.

Sohrab Sharma, 18, of Cumberland Place, was arrested Monday and charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal facilitation and criminal contempt. He was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Arraignment details were not immediately available. His next court date is Dec. 10.

Police said Sharma was a tenant at the Cumberland Place home and stole the bonds from the homeowner.

He also was charged in two incidents in May and September, when police said he facilitated a phone conversation between an inmate at the Nassau County Jail and a woman in violation of a court order of protection.
