Cops: S.C. man caught with handgun in car

A South Carolina man was arrested Sunday night in Uniondale after plainclothes police officers saw him take a handgun from his waistband and hide it under the seat of a parked car, police said.

Tyrone Jones, 30, of Greenville, S.C., was a front-seat passenger in a 2000 Honda parked at Paff and Jerusalem avenues at 11:24 p.m. when the officers approached the car and saw the gun, police said.

When Jones got out of the car the officers arrested him and found the gun, police said. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and was scheduled for arraignment Monday at First District Court, Hempstead. Bail information was not immediately available Monday morning
