Nassau County police have arrested four men on charges of larceny after they twice this week stuffed merchandise into bags and left a Hewlett CVS without paying for the items, detectives said.
Fourth Squad detectives said a manager of the CVS at 1220 Peninsula Blvd. noticed two men enter the store Tuesday night around 7:40 p.m. and, assisted by a third man, place items into a bag. The manager told police she recognized two of the men as those who were involved in a similar theft on Monday.
The men then left the store and jumped into a 1997 Chevrolet, operated by a fourth man. The suspects fled westbound on Peninsula Boulevard, police said.
With the help of a witness, police were able to stop the vehicle on Rockaway Turnpike in North Lawrence. The four men tried to run away after being stopped, police said, but were caught after a short chase on foot.
Ralph Timmons, 51, of 214-29 112th Rd., Queens Village, and Charles Sands, 49, of 333 Georgia Ave., Apt 4G, Brooklyn, are each charged with robbery and possession of burglary tools, police said. Timmons also is charged with grand larceny for the incident on Monday, police said.
Damon Price, 42, of 1412 Sterling Place, Brooklyn, and Herbert O. Daughtry, 47, of 272 Pennsylvania Ave., Brooklyn, were arrested after struggling with officers. Price and Daughtry were charged with robbery, assault, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools.
Price also was charged with grand larceny in connection with the incident on Monday, police said.
All four men were scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Two officers were treated and released from an area hospital for minor injuries sustained during the struggle.
