Westbury man arrested in fireworks sales to kids

Talk about a fire sale.
A man has been arrested in New Cassel for selling fireworks to children on the eve of Independence Day, Nassau County police said Saturday.
Acting on a tip from neighbors, cops saw children 13 and younger go into a home on Third Avenue between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday and leave with fireworks protruding from plastic bags, authorities said.
Two at a time, the child buyers went into the home; a police spokesman said cops then saw three sets of children emerge with the fireworks.
The spokesman couldn't immediately say what kind of fireworks were being sold or what the man was charging.
Arrested and charged with six counts of child endangerment and three counts of dealing with fireworks, all misdemeanors, was Kevin Wilkins, 45, of Pinetree Road in Westbury. Wilkins will be arraigned on July 4 at First District Court in Hempstead.
Wilkins, authorities said, had been selling the fireworks out of his aunt's Third Avenue home.
About $500 in fireworks were seized by officers from the Williston-Park-based Third Precinct of the Nassau police. The cops also confiscated the fireworks from the children.
