Cops: Inwood deli burglar nabbed

He got $27, some beer, cigarettes and cigars, but Keith Highsmith did not get far after he burglarized the Eden Deli on Mott Avenue in Inwood on Monday, police said.
In fact, he got as far as the rear of the delicatessen before he was discovered hiding in some bushes -- and was arrested, Nassau police said.
Highsmith, 43, of Church Street, Inwood, has been charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said Highsmith broke into the Eden Deli around 2 a.m. Monday. Officers responding to a 911 call found him hiding behind the building -- with the items he stole from inside the deli in plastic bags hidden in a garbage pail and in some nearby bushes, police said.
