5 charged in N. Hempstead car break-ins

Nassau police arrested five men on a host of charges related to a string of car break-ins in Roslyn, Flower Hill, Manhasset, Port Washington and Sands Point.
The men are accused of stealing items such as GPS units, iPods and cell phones from cars early Saturday morning.
The defendants are Kai Lau, 18, of 203rd Street in Oakland Gardens, Queens; Jonathan So, 19, of 68th Street in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn; Wilson Yan, 21, of 57th Road in Flushing, Queens; Yun Chu, 19, of 161st Street in Fresh Meadows, Queens; and Scott Wang, 20, of 138th Street in Flushing, Queens.
A Nassau police officer pulled the men over on the Long Island Expressway after a notification went out about car break-ins on Cherrywood Lane in Flower Hill, police said.
The men face more than 175 charges, including grand larceny, petit larceny, criminal mischief and criminal possession of stolen property. They are scheduled to appear in court today.
Police ask that any residents who believe they were the victims of a car larceny on May 2 to contact the sixth squad at 516-573-6653.
