Nassau cops stymie home burglaries in Sea Cliff

A spate of daytime home burglaries in Sea Cliff has apparently been brought to a halt by a Nassau Police department effort that put six extra plainclothes officers in the community, the police said.

Five Sea Cliff homes were burglarized in December and January, in most cases by someone who entered through a basement window and stole cash, jewelry and electronic equipment, the police said.

In a sixth case someone tried to break into a home but was unsuccessful, Det. Sgt. Anthony Repalone said. None of the homes was occupied at the time of the break-ins or attempted break-in, the police said.

There have been no new burglaries reported in Sea Cliff since January, he said.

The police are continuing to investigate and they are following leads in a search for suspects. Crimes Against Property Squad detectives with itemized inventories of stolen items are canvassing pawn shops to look for the burglary proceeds, the police said.
