Arrest in robbery after traffic stop

A Freeport man was charged Tuesday with robbery and burglary after Nassau police officers initially pulled him over for driving a car with a cracked windshield and a broken brake light, police said.
Keenan A. Davidson, 23, of 7 Charlick Place, was driving north on Nassau Road in Roosevelt at 10:20 p.m. when special operations bureau officers pulled over his 2002 Chevrolet, police said.
An investigation after the traffic stop soon led to the burglary and robbery charges, police said.
"The investigation revealed ... [he] was driving with a suspended license, was in possession of a .380 caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun and proceeds from a burglary that had occurred in Roosevelt on December 17, 2008," a Wednesday police report said.
In connection with the Dec. 17 crimes, Davidson was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.
And in the Tuesday traffic stop, Davidson was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, unlawful possession of marijuana and two vehicle violations -- the broken windshield and defective brake light, police said.
In the Wednesday news release the police gave the following account of the Dec. 17 incident. Davidson, who was carrying a .380 caliber Hi-Point handgun, and another man entered a Freeport residence through an unlocked front door. They confronted the resident and demanded money, then removed cash and a Honeywell carry safe from the house.
He faces arraignment Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
