Cop's arm broken; man held in Roslyn Heights rampage

A man on a rampage at his girlfriend's Roslyn Heights home broke a police officer's arm and attacked several other officers as they tried to stop him from assaulting the woman Wednesday night, police said.
Eugene Tomachinski 30, of Bridgeport, Conn., was eventually subdued and arrested and the police took him to a hospital for evaluation.
Tomachinski's violent outbreak began at around 11 p.m. when he "awakened suddenly, picked up a computer and a cordless phone and smashed them to the floor," a police report said.
When his girlfriend, 28, tried to stop him he became physically violent. The woman's father intervened and pulled her away from him and together they ran from their Harvard Street home. They asked a neighbor to call the police.
Tomachinski followed them outside the house and seized the woman, dragging her back into the house as the father struggled to protect her. When a Third Precinct officer arrived and heard the victims calling for help, the officer forced his way into the house and tried to restrain Tomachinski, who continued to struggle with the woman's father, police said.
Tomachinski "refused several commands to desist and continued to punch and kick the officer, breaking the officer's right arm," the police report said. "Tomachinski also punched, kicked and spit on several assisting officers as they tried to subdue him."
He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment and evaluation. The officer with the broken arm was taken for treatment at Winthrop Hospital in Mineola, and two other officers were also treated there for bruises inflicted by Tomachinski, police said. The victim and her father did not have injuries that required immediate medical attention.
Tomachinski faces charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief. No arraignment date had been set by Thursday morning.
