Dix Hills Video Game Bandit Busted in Massapequa

A 27-year-old Dix Hills man was arrested Friday after Nassau County police thwarted his burglary of a video game store in Massapequa and linked him to another in Merrick, police said.

According to detectives, while on patrol, a Seventh Precinct police officer observed Bryan R. Kellman, 27, of Katonah Place in Dix Hills, running from the rear of a strip mall located at 6120 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. The officer stopped Kellman as he entered his vehicle, which was parked in the vicinity of East Chestnut Street. On Kellman’s back seat, the officer noticed a black bag, which contained a crowbar and bolt cutters, said detectives.

Upon inspection of the rear of the strip mall that Kellman had been fleeing, officers discovered that the rear to Red Wing Shoe Store had been pried open and a hole had been made in the wall of the adjoining store, Game Stop. Kellman was arrested and transported to the Seventh Precinct for arrest processing.

Following an investigation, Seventh Squad detectives discovered that Kellman had attempted to break into the Game Stop located at 2200 Sunrise Highway in Merrick Thursday, March 18 at 9:30 p.m. Kellman cut the wires to its electric meter and attempted to pry open its rear door, said detectives.

Kellman was charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, two counts of 3rd Degree Burglary (attempt), 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and Possession of Burglary Tools. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Saturday.
