Cops: Road closure rage in Merrick

A Merrick woman enraged to find a road closed for a fundraising run was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment Sunday after nearly driving her Lexus into a police officer, Nassau police said.
A Nassau police officer was directing traffic at Merrick Road and Central Parkway Sunday at 9:40 a.m. during the "Forever 9" Robbie Levine Foundation 5K Run when Alisha Sussman, 32, of Harbor Road, arrived and began arguing with the officer, insisting on driving eastbound on Merrick Road, which was closed, police said.
The officer directed Sussman to pull over, because she was blocking traffic, but instead Sussman accelerated, and her car lurched toward the officer, police said.
She slammed on the brakes as the officer brought down his hands on the hood of the car, police said. The officer again directed her to pull over, but she fled the scene in her car and was later arrested at a friend's home on Leonard Lane, police said. The officer was not hurt.
Sussman was charged with second degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanor, and other violations, including failure to obey a police officer. She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on May 6.
