Cops: Neighbor helps nab burglar in Baldwin

A watchful neighbor helped the police catch a burglar who broke into a Baldwin house through a first-floor window Thursday night and stole jewelry, Nassau police said.

Noel Hicks, 49, of Roosevelt, entered the Forest Avenue home at 11:31 p.m. by breaking a rear window and, once inside, he took the jewelry from a first-floor bedroom, the police said.

A neighbor who saw Hicks break in called the police, who arrested him on Coes Neck Road and recovered the jewelry, First Squad detectives said.

Hicks was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and criminal mischief. He faces arraignment Friday at First District Court, Hempstead.
