Police on Long Island had a busy Memorial Day weekend

Long Island law enforcement officials were busy over the Memorial Day weekend, charing scores with alcohol-related crimes on the roads and many others went to jail on drug possession and other charges.
Suffolk County police reported that the department made 41 drunken driving arrests and charged eight with driving while ability impaired between Friday at 3 p.m. and Monday at midnight. Suffolk patrol officers also stopped nearly 550 drivers and arrested seven at a sobriety checkpoint and related roving patrol in Brentwood. One person was charged with boating while intoxicated, police said.
Nassau County officers made 65 drunken driving arrests between 8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday, while Suffolk County Sheriff's deputies made seven drunken driving arrests. Deputies charged 37 people with misdemeanor traffic-related charges, according to Chief Michael Sharkey, and issued more than 300 traffic tickets.
Southampton Town officers arrested more than two dozen people, most of them for drug-related offenses, at Neptune Beach Club, a Quogue nightclub. Other arrests were made at Tavern in Southampton, The Whitehouse in Hampton Bays, Regulars in North Sea and the Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays. Charges ranged from illegal drugs use and bartenders selling alcohol to minors to disorderly conduct, police said.
Two employees of Neptune Beach Club, Scott C. Benjes of Kings Park and Brian P. Dowling of Amityville, were arrested after they allegedly sold cocaine and Ecstasy at the dance club, police said. Club security personnel was confiscating drugs from customers and reselling them to other patrons, police said.
