Cops: Manhasset man arrested for making fake IDs

A Manhasset man was arrested Monday and charged with selling altered driver's licenses to underage people, removing "Under 21" labels and altering their birth dates to allow them to buy alcoholic drinks, the Nassau police said.
Sean Whelan, 20, of Thompson Shore Road in Manhasset, surrendered Monday morning to detectives at the Westbury offices of the Nassau police Crimes Against Property Squad.
A police report did not say what kind of technology Whelan used to produce the altered licenses.
Whelan is charged with eight counts of possession of a forged instrument and he faces arraignment Tuesday at First District Court, Hempstead.
Detectives request that anyone with knowledge about other forged New York State Driver's Licenses or any other forged instruments or documents to please contact Crime Stoppers 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
