Cops: Man drove without license, had gun in car

Here's a tip: If you're carrying an illegal handgun and driving without a license or identification, wear your seat belt.

Nassau County police said Jadon Scott, 36, of 120 West 97th St., New York, wasn't wearing his seat belt behind the wheel of a 1997 Lincoln Tuesday night in Massapequa. Two police officers on routine patrol pulled him over around 9:20 p.m.

What the officers found was anything but routine.

Police said Scott, who could not produce either a valid driver's license or any other identification, was carrying a loaded .40-caliber handgun in a knapsack in the vehicle.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and as an unlicensed operator.

He also was charged with driving without a seat belt.

Scott is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.
