Burglary charge for 2 teens found in Levittown backyard

Two teenagers fleeing the scene of a burglary on bicycles Thursday caught and arrested by responding officers, police said.

Brian Coles, 18, of Van Cott Ave., Hempstead, and Danis Benavides, 16, of Holly La., Westbury, were both charged with second degree burglary.

Neighbors were suspicious about the two teens in the rear yard of a home on Greenbelt Lane, Levittown, and called authorities at 11:45 a.m., police said.

Coles and Benavides were traveling on their bicycles on Carman Avenue in Westbury a short time later, when they were stopped by Special Operations Bureau officers, and found in possession of a laptop computer that was taken from the Greenbelt Lane residence, police said.

Both Coles and Benavides were to be arraigned Friday in First District Court, Hempstead.
